Carbon Business Year 2008-09
Every business generates polution in some way, either directly or indirectly!
How responsibly that polution is handled is the diference between a consciencious business and one that just does not care.
On this page we hope to explain how The Wax Man and our parent Ryklyn UK Ltd are handling ours, how much we produce and from where.
But...
We aim to do far more than that. The figures below are just a starting point. From here we will create a business that is less harmful than it already is. We will remove more greenhouse gases from the atmosphere than we are putting into it and you can buy from us knowing that when you do you are in some small way helping the planet we live on.
As well as owning a car that will make others stand back in amazement.
So what did we produce?
POWER (Electricity)
In our accounting period April 2008 - March 2009 we:-
Heated and powered our premises - 787 KWh.................................................................................... (424Kg of CO2).
Ran our admin department - 152 KWh.......................................................................................................(82Kg of CO2).
Total 506Kg of CO2
This is where most companies stop! We want to go further, to include all carbon, gas or not.
We decided that the best way to measure this is to calculate the carbon content and assume that all would degrade into CO2.
This, of course, is unlikely but again we are looking at being Carbon Positive.
PRODUCTS
We bought or produced 413Kg of products.
Our products on average are 60% Hydrocarbons or approx 247kg.
Of this approx 60% is carbon or 149kg.
To calculate the equivalent in CO2 we multiply this by 3.67.....................................................................(546Kg of CO2).
PAPER & CARD
We used 6kg of paper and 16kg of boxes and envelopes.
We received and disposed of 38kg of paper based waste and 10kg of plastic waste.
All paper and card used is at least First Generation recycled.
Waste received was 92% recycled leaving just 4kg of landfill waste.
Using similar formulas to our products we handled 70kg of paper and card.
On average 50% of this weight is carbon or 35kg.
Multiply by 3.67 our paper and card handling is equivalent to.................................................................(128Kg of CO2).
PLASTICS
We used 2kg of Admin storage and 8Kg of plastic tape.
In addtion we used 13Kg of plastic bottles and caps and 4Kg of plastic pumping Equipment.
Our total plastic usage was 27Kg
On average 50% of this weight is carbon or 14kg.
Multiply by 3.67 our plastic usage is equivalent to......................................................................................(51Kg of CO2).
PREMISES
Even insulating our premises uses carbon to save carbon.
We installed 20kg of insulation into our premises.
On average 40% of this was carbon or 8kg.
Multiply by 3.67 and our insulation accounted for........................................................................................(29Kg of CO2).
Total Extra Allowance 754Kg of CO2
TOTAL CARBON USE 1.26 Tonnes of CO2
OUR 2008-09 EXTRA PLEDGE (+25%) 0.315 Tonnes of CO2
TOTAL OFFSET 1.6 Tonnes of CO2
Our actual emmisions were just 0.5 Tonnes. The Wax Man therefore contributed to reducing CO2 by over 1 Tonne.
A useful reduction and achieved in some of the poorest and most poluting parts of the planet.
Our offset doesn't just help the environment, it produces revenue and jobs.
We hope that you see this as we do... WORTHWHILE.
